I have NEWS. I wanted to tell as many people as possible either in person or on the phone, because I hate to make people find out about this stuff on the internet, but I'm getting tired of telling the story over and over again, to be honest. So please don't take it personally!
Saturday, lynxreign, ioianthe, shadesong, her daughter E, and I all went up to kythryne's house in New Hampshire, for something Kyth likes to call "Introvert Parties" The idea is that you take something to work on, or read, or whatever, and everyone just hangs out and does their own thing, and if people want to talk, great, but there's no real social pressure to be chatty or anything. It turned out to be a really compatible group of people, so there was actually a lot of talking after all, but it was really fun. Also, I made chili for the potluck part of the party, and it came out really well, I think, and although I had doubled the recipe, it was completely devoured, and quickly. Yay chili!
Yesterday morning, I found I was duped. DUPED, I SAY! I was lured there under FALSE PRETENSES!
See, we were about to leave to go help ioianthe and rayan4d2 move, but I wasn't feeling well. So I was unshowered, still in pjs and glasses, feeling like a total wreck, when lynx tells me there's something he has to do before he leaves. He tells me to go sit in my chair. I do, feeling confused. He pushes my chair back a little and positions me, my confusion growing. He then went into the kitchen, where I heard a drawer open, and then he returned with a large white box.
I'm starting to get a glimmer of what might be happening, but the box is big! What could possibly be in there?
Well, if you haven't guessed by now, you really should have. lynxreign officially asked me to marry him. Inside the box was
that. THAT, my friends, is a necklace, made by the wonderful and SNEAKY kythryne, designed by lynx. As it turns out, they've been working on it all summer. He drew the design, and they've gone back and forth working it out. Here are some more pictures of it.
The ring in the middle is his grandmother's wedding ring, with the diamonds from her engagement ring set in the top. He knows I don't like a) rings b) engagement rings and c) diamonds, so he went this route instead. Kyth, of course, worked her magic, and knows both my tastes and my neck size pretty well. The green beads are emeralds, the two rectangular flashy beads on either side of the ring are labradorite, my favorite, and look! She even put an emerald on the clasp! It's not a perfect fit, but very close, and Kyth has already said she wants to get me back up for a custom fitting.
So yeah, they've been conspiring against me all summer! The party, apparently, was just an excuse for lynx to be able to get up there and hand off the ring without me getting suspicious! Amy, Kyth's wife, is also a programmer, and she and lynx have a tendency to talk code when they get together. So her job was to get him upstairs, so Kyth could nonchalantly follow, finish the necklace, and get it hidden in the car with me never suspecting a thing. Very, very funny.
And yes, of course I said yes.
Edit: Kyth's site is here, for all your jewelry shopping and custom work needs.
